On compact equipment, hydraulic leaks rarely announce themselves. They start as a film at the edge of a valve stack and grow slowly. By the time oil reaches the floor, the leak has often been running for weeks.
The source is usually the interface between sections. In a sectional directional valve, each section is bolted to the next, with seals between them. Every interface is a potential leak path - and the more sections, the more interfaces.
This is a trade-off, not a defect. Sectional valves can be reconfigured later, but that flexibility comes at the cost of seals, tie rods, and alignment that can shift over time.

A different approach
Shijiazhuang Laiye manufactures the P40 monoblock directional valve, which takes the opposite approach. The body is cast as one piece of iron, with all spool bores machined into the same block. No sections bolted together. No seals between sections. No tie rods to torque.
The P40 is rated at 40 L/min and 250 bar, with an operating range of -40°C to +80°C. It is available with 1 to 7 sections - one section per function. A three-function machine gets a three-section valve. No extra sections, no unused capacity.
The trade-off runs the other way: because the body is cast as one piece, the section count cannot be changed later. For equipment with a fixed function list, that is a reasonable trade.
Where it fits
The P40 is used on forklifts (mast tilt, lift, side shift), compact loaders (bucket control and attachments), small excavators (boom, arm, blade), and agricultural machinery with limited hydraulic functions.
Maintenance is limited by design. Lever dust boots should be checked periodically. Oil should stay clean - contamination in the spool bore is the most common cause of a sticking spool. Beyond that, the valve is not user-serviceable, and it is not meant to be.
Manual lever control is standard. Solenoid, electro-hydraulic, pneumatic, and push-pull cable options are also available, along with OEM customization.
