When you are designing the hydraulic circuit for a large tractor or a high-flow test bench, the pump output often sits between 100 L/min and 180 L/min. In many of these applications, the system does not need to run at 315 bar. It needs to move a large volume of oil with as little restriction as possible. The SD180 efficient low-pressure monoblock hydraulic valve was built with this in mind. It is rated for 160 L/min and operates continuously at 16 MPa. It will handle spikes up to 31.5 MPa, but it is most efficient when running at the lower end of its pressure range.

The SD180 is a monoblock valve. The body is cast as a single piece of iron. There are no tie rods to torque, no O-ring seals between sections to leak, and no stacked joints where the body can shift under load. Installation and Precautions

 

The SD180 is designed to be straightforward to install, but there are a few details that are worth double-checking before you pressurize the system.

The valve does not need to be upright-it works in any orientation. But the surface it bolts onto needs to be flat and rigid. If the mounting plate is warped or uneven, the body will twist as you tighten the bolts, and the spools will not move freely. Use a torque wrench and tighten the bolts evenly in a cross pattern. The torque spec is provided with the valve-follow it.

The port connections are labeled, but it is worth confirming them before you connect the hoses. P is the pressure inlet from the pump. T is the return to the tank. A and B go to the cylinder. If you swap A and B, the cylinder will move the wrong way when you pull the lever. That is the kind of mistake that is easy to make and hard to spot until the system is under pressure.

The levers extend from the valve body. Before you bolt everything down, make sure there is enough clearance around them. If a lever hits a hose or a frame member, the operator will not be able to move it through the full range.
